Utilising an air separator is highly beneficial when using air tools. The presence of water in the hose and air tank can cause damage to the inner workings of an air tool. In addition, impact tools are especially affected with the torque load being the part severely affected by the water damage. However, any unpleasant effect can be dramatically reduced with the installation of an air separator in the supply line, from the compressor to the tool. Also, in an especially humid weather, air tools have the tendency to drip water as they are being used sans air separator. This can result to damage of vital engine components if accidentally allowed to drip in the engine bay.

Found at most hardware, farm supply, and even home stores, air separators can be purchased for a minimal cost and can be installed in a matter of minutes. Oftentimes, they can be reusable and can easily be emptied once full with water. Some oil separators however are not reusable, however, since they do not cost much, they can be changed without having to spend a lot of money. As a closing note, it is vital that you monitor your air separator to ensure it remains in the operational state, otherwise, having one in place will only be in vain since it will no longer offer any protection from contaminants.
